About
Acacia fibre, also known as gum arabic, is the hardened, naturally occurring sap of the acacia tree. It's a soluble prebiotic fibre, meaning it dissolves in water and serves as food for the beneficial bacteria living in the gut, and it's bland and odourless, which is part of why it works so well in a flavoured drink without adding any background taste of its own.
What sets acacia fibre apart from many other fibres is how slowly it ferments in the gut. Fast fermenting fibres can produce a lot of gas quickly, which is often the reason fibre supplements cause bloating. Acacia fibre ferments gradually along the length of the colon, which tends to make it easier to tolerate, even at meaningful doses.
Acacia fibre also adds bulk to stool, which supports regular, comfortable bowel movements, and as a prebiotic it feeds beneficial bacteria such as Bifidobacteria, supporting a healthy balance of gut flora. The fibre used in Happy Gut is minimum 85% dietary fibre on a dry weight basis, is kosher and halal certified, non-GMO, and free of common allergens.
